The recent IKKU Invitational Kumite Championships attracted over 200 competitors from all over Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. The event was held at the end of February in Tallaght Leisure Centre.

The senior competitors were up first on the morning of the competition. The male and female categories were both hotly contested. A number of IKKU national squad members were competing on the day, some of whom had recently fought in the Paris and Wasquehal Open events held in France. The quality of competition made for exciting watching for onlookers.

IKKU competitors Gordon Smith, Brian Ahern and Aaron McLoughlin brought home the gold in the Mens Seniors, Novice and under 21s category while IKKU ladies Jennifer Byrne, Blaithin Casey and Justyne Collins got silver and bronze in the Seniors and Girls categories.

After a brief interval the junior event kicked off. There was a big junior entry across all the categories and the IKKU was well represented across the board in the medals table. Adam Durning, Ruaidhri Collins, Dylan Byrne, Katrina Susko all placed in their categories. The full results are available online.
