WHAT IS SENIOR SQUAD TRAINING
Senior Squad Training is a highly intensive training session focussed on sparring techniques and drills that are aimed to help athletes compete at the highest level in the sport of karate. It is for the benefit of all IKKU members and invited guests who are interested in developing their fighting skills and competing in kumite competitions both nationally and internationally.
WHEN IS IT ON
Senior Squad Training takes place every Monday Night from 8pm to 10pm.
WHERE IS IT ON
Senior Squad Training takes place at the IKKU's HQ which is located at Unit 4, Santry Hall Industrial Estate, Santry, Dublin 9, D09 V409.
WHO CAN COME ALONG
All over 16's are welcome, both male and female.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING
Gloves, Shin & Foot Pads, Gumshields, Towel, Water and Yourself.
WHO IS OUR COACH
Sensei Paul Brennan is the IKKU Senior Squad Coach. Paul is also the O.N.A.K.A.I Ladies National Team Coach and is rated as one of Ireland's finest. He has vast coaching experience and an extreme technical knowledge and awareness of kumite preperation and development for the modern athlete. Paul has travelled all over Europe coaching Irish athletes on the European circuit and is well respected amongst his peers. WHAT RULES DO WE FIGHT UNDER
We fight under the rules as outlined in the World Karate Federation's Rule Book. These rules will be the rules used in Olympic Karate Competition.
WKF COMPETITION RULES
WHAT COMPETITIONS DO WE COMPETE IN
The IKKU squad competes at the British, Scottish, Dutch, French and Belgian Opens most years and other international competitions. Fighters also compete on the European K1 Karate Circuit which is the highest level of kumite in Europe. If selected to fight on the O.N.A.K.A.I. National Squad fighters also take part in the WKF and EKF Senior Championships. We also compete at home at the O.N.A.K.A.I. Nationals and several other competitions throughout the year which are proving grounds for up and coming fighters.
